Kurdistan is facing major challenges due to Turkish military activities

The environment in Iraqi Kurdistan is facing major challenges due to Turkish military activities, including operations carried out by Turkey. Reports indicate that there have been bombings and the burning of agricultural lands and forests, which negatively impact biodiversity and the region’s natural resources.

Military force is being used in areas believed to be strongholds of insurgents. This has led to the destruction of vast forest areas and the displacement of local residents.

These actions are causing environmental degradation, and the region is losing a significant part of its natural heritage. The impact on agriculture and water resources may also lead to humanitarian crises, with rising tensions between local communities and the authorities.

This issue is considered sensitive and complex, as it involves political, environmental, and social dimensions. Nevertheless, military bases in the area refuse to allow firefighting teams or local residents to help extinguish fires. Unfortunately, there is silence from both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Baghdad Government regarding these violations and abuses. We appeal to the international community to assist the local people and put an end to these Turkish crimes.
