The Kurdistan Green Party is deeply concerned by the information and images circulating regarding tree-cutting activities in the Barwari area of Duhok Governorate, reportedly involving Turkish parties and a Turkish company operating in the area.
Barwari’s forests are a national and environmental treasure, an integral part of Kurdistan’s natural heritage, and a legacy that must be protected for future generations. We therefore call on the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq to launch an urgent and transparent investigation, suspend any tree-cutting activities until their legality is established, and publicly disclose the parties and companies responsible, as well as any permits that may have been issued.
We also call on the Turkish authorities to respect the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and their natural resources, and to prevent activities that could damage Kurdistan’s forests and environment.
Kurdistan’s forests are not for sale or destruction.
Protecting Barwari is a national responsibility and a duty to future generations.
