Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Green Party

Dr. Handren Naoman Afandi, born in Erbil in 1968, is the Secretary-General of the Kurdistan Green Party and an advocate for green politics, environmental protection, democracy, and social justice in Kurdistan.

The Kurdistan Green Party was founded on 5 June 2009, a date that coincides with World Environment Day, reflecting the Party’s environmental identity and its commitment to protecting nature while promoting democracy, human rights, social justice, and sustainable development.

Since its establishment, the Party, under the leadership of Dr. Handren Naoman Afandi, has worked to strengthen the role of environmental issues in the political and public life of Kurdistan and to develop relations with Green parties, political movements, and organizations at the regional and international levels.

The Kurdistan Green Party has been a member of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) since 2009. It is also part of the international Green movement through its membership in the Global Greens, as well as its participation and membership in the Afro-Asian framework bringing together Green parties and movements from Asia and Africa.

Through his leadership of the Kurdistan Green Party, Dr. Handren Naoman Afandi seeks to advance Green politics in Kurdistan, raise environmental awareness, protect natural resources and biodiversity, and address the challenges of climate change, pollution, and desertification. His political vision also emphasizes democracy, human rights, social justice, peace, and sustainable development.

Dr. Afandi’s vision is based on the principle that protecting the environment and protecting human dignity are inseparable. Building a secure and sustainable future for coming generations requires local, regional, and international cooperation founded on peace, democracy, justice, and responsibility toward nature.
